Emerging Public Leaders and Government of Malawi sign MoU for Quality Service Delivery

(Lilongwe, Malawi - 28 November 2023) – Emerging Public Leaders and the Government of Malawi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today that marks the beginning of a new collaboration to develop and deliver a public service fellowship for young leaders in Malawi.

The signing ceremony was attended by Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC), Madame Colleen Zamba who said improvement in public service performance through the involvement of youth is one of the key priority areas put in place by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as one way of developing a vibrant economy.

“These are the results of some of the sideline meetings President Chakwera had at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA, where he met the officials of Emerging Public Leaders.” Zamba said.

Abigail Kajumba, Executive Director of EPL, said through the Public Service Fellowship, they support in-country programmes that recruit Africa’s most promising future leaders and place them into meaningful civil service and public service positions.

“Emerging Public Leaders is incredibly excited to be signing this Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Malawi.  We look forward to co-creating Emerging Public Leaders’ newest fellowship with the Government of Malawi and launching the program soon.” said Kajumba

She thanked their partners, Mastercard Foundation, for providing crucial support for this new fellowship programme in Malawi. Over one year, fellows are provided with the supervisory support, rigorous training, and mentorship they need to launch and build a successful career in public service.

Emerging Public Leaders will be announcing design phase activities in early 2024 that will involve wider consultations with young women in particular, to ensure that equality and ethical leadership are at the heart of this initiative.
